Therapy for Body Image Issues in London
How we feel about our bodies can shape so much of everyday life: the clothes we choose, how we feel in social situations, whether we enjoy exercise or avoid it, and how at ease we feel in relationships and during sex. For some people, worry about appearance takes up a huge amount of time and energy. Therapy offers a space to understand where those feelings come from and find a more settled relationship with your body.
I am a BACP-accredited psychotherapist offering therapy in central London and online, working with people of all genders and sexualities who struggle with body image.
Body image issues can look like
-
Preoccupation with weight, shape, muscle, hair, skin or a particular feature
-
Constantly checking, comparing or seeking reassurance about how you look
-
Avoiding mirrors, photos, social situations or intimacy
-
Pressure from social media, dating apps or gym culture
-
Feeling self-conscious or disconnected from your body during sex
-
Shame about your body, or feeling it is never good enough
How therapy can help
Body image is rarely only about the body. It is often tied up with self-worth, shame, past experiences such as bullying, and messages about what is attractive or acceptable. In therapy we explore those links and the patterns that keep the worry going.
