Therapy for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse

 

If you were sexually abused or assaulted, whether as a child or as an adult, you may have carried it alone for a long time. Many men find it especially hard to speak about, held back by shame, fear of not being believed, or ideas about what it means to be a man.

 

I am a BACP-accredited psychotherapist offering therapy in central London and online. I offer male survivors a safe, confidential and unhurried space, where you decide what you talk about and when.

 

How abuse can affect you later

• Anxiety, low mood or feeling numb

• Flashbacks, nightmares or feeling constantly on guard

• Shame, self-blame or a sense that something is wrong with you

• Difficulties with trust, closeness and relationships

• Confusion or distress around sex, sexuality or your body

• Using alcohol, drugs, sex or work to cope

• Anger that feels hard to manage

 

These are understandable responses to something that should never have happened. They are not a sign of weakness.

 

How therapy can help

We'll go at your pace. You don't need to describe what happened in detail, or at all, until you feel ready. Early work often focuses on feeling safer and steadier day to day.

 

Over time, therapy can help you make sense of the impact, set down shame that was never yours to carry, and feel more at ease in your relationships, your body and your sex life. Whatever your age, sexuality or background, and however long ago it happened, you deserve support.
