Therapy for Self-Destructive Behaviour in London
Sometimes we act in ways we know will hurt us: drinking too much, taking risks, pushing people away, or sabotaging work and relationships just as things start going well. Afterwards there may be regret, shame and a promise not to do it again, until it happens again.
I am a BACP-accredited psychotherapist offering therapy in central London and online. I offer a non-judgemental space to understand these patterns and find other ways to cope.
What it can look like
-
Self-sabotage at work, in relationships or with your goals
-
Drinking, drug use or chemsex that leaves you feeling worse
-
Risky sex, spending, gambling or driving
-
Pushing away people who care about you
-
Neglecting your health, sleep or basic needs
-
Harsh self-criticism, or feeling you don't deserve good things
-
Hurting yourself when feelings become overwhelming
How therapy can help
Self-destructive behaviour usually makes sense once we understand what it's doing for you. Often it's a way of managing feelings that seem unbearable, such as shame, anger, loneliness or emptiness, or a pattern learned early in life.
Together we'll look at what happens before, during and after, and at the feelings underneath. Gradually we can build steadier ways of coping and a kinder relationship with yourself.
